Machine-made and hand-tufted rugs vary in backing and wear behavior. Compare the actual product rather than assuming one construction has a guaranteed lifespan.
Chair makers offer different casters for different floor types. A rating for fitted carpet is useful for rolling effort but does not prove that the same wheel will leave no mark on a loose area rug.
