Check these before ordering
Measure the route, not just the room
A 10×14 rolls into a tube roughly three and a half metres long that does not bend. Stairwells, lift cars, landings and doorways all defeat it. Measure the whole path from the street to the room, and ask whether the seller will deliver and lay it.
Weight. A hand-knotted wool 10×14 runs 35–65kg dry. Positioning it is a two- or three-person job, and dragging it — which is what happens with two — distorts the foundation.
Cleaning. Not every rug plant has the wash floor and drying capacity for this size. Ask before buying, not after — how much does rug cleaning cost.
Pads do not come this large. You will be joining two or three pieces of felt, butted rather than overlapped so there is no ridge under the rug — rug pads.
Design at this scale
Large fields need drawing that carries them. An all-over repeat holds a big rug together; a single medallion can leave the field looking empty. Motifs sized for a 5×8 read as fussy here, which is why Oushak and Sultanabad designs — drawn large — suit big rooms so well.

Availability
Antique rugs at this size are scarce and priced accordingly, because they were woven for large European and American houses rather than for the domestic markets that produced most surviving weaving.
Contemporary production handles it comfortably — Indian and Pakistani workshops weave room-size and larger routinely — and custom is very reasonable at this scale, because the economics already favour large pieces: custom rugs.

Is a 10×14 rug too big for a living room?
